One person is dead after a seaplane crashed near Port Hardy, B.C., on Wednesday, the B.C. Coroners Service says. 

Spokesperson Amber Schinkel confirmed in an email that the service is investigating the death but said they cannot provide any details at this time. 

The Transportation Safety Board told CBC News the plane went down in Warner Bay, located about 45 kilometres northeast of Port Hardy. Spokesperson Hugo Fontaine said they are looking into the cause of the incident. 

“We are gathering information and assessing the situation,” he said in an email.
