‘180!’: Town centre’s new darts bar opens with sport’s local legend appearing
Rogue, in Deansgate, Bolton, has 12 dartboards across two floors with plans to install a shop so that guests can try out their arrows before buying.
In town for the occasion was four-time BDO women’s world champion and Boltonian, Lisa Ashton, along with Rhys Griffin who’s set to appear in this year’s PDC World Championships.
“We’ve played darts all our lives, and always watched it, so we thought we’d open this up,” said Martyn Handley, one of the three owners.
“70 people came for the opening which we’re really pleased with.
“Everyone is enjoying themselves on the boards, and wish me luck because I’m about to play Lisa!”
professional exhibitions.
Martyn himself plays in Bolton’s Astley Bridge League.
He said: “Six teams from the league I play in will play here.
“In the new year we’ll also have Sky TV so that you can watch the darts while you’re playing.”
The premises on Deansgate was formerly a chippy.
Alongside Martyn are co-owners Joe Murnham, who used to play professional darts, and Gary ‘Gaz’ Leigh.
“Our favourite darts player is probably Phil Taylor, the 16-time world champion,” Martyn added.
Rogues is open 10am to 2am from Thursday to Sunday, and 10am to 1am on other days.
The 2025 PDC World Darts Championships start tomorrow (December 15) with the final taking place next year on January 3.
Darts saw a surge in people playing after last year’s tournament, much down to the success of Runcorn’s then-16-year-old Luke Littler, whose campaign saw him reach the final.
