3 injured in string of separate North End stabbings, Winnipeg police say | CBC News

Winnipeg police arrested two people and continue to search for a third in connection to a string of unrelated stabbings within a five-hour span in the city’s North End on Friday.

Police were called to the first stabbing at 6:30 p.m. where a woman in her 30s went to a store on Mountain Avenue to seek help after she was injured in the upper body, a news release said on Saturday. 

The woman received emergency medical care and was taken to hospital in stable condition. 

A woman in her 20s, who was known to the victim, was arrested nearby. She faces robbery and weapons-related charges and remains in custody, police said. 

The second stabbing saw police go to a residence on Jefferson Avenue, between Sheppard Street and Adsum Drive, around 7 p.m. 

A man in his 30s was arrested for allegedly stabbing a man in his 20s. He had serious upper-body injuries, police said. Both men knew each other. 

Police also arrested the victim for assault-related charges based on a previous incident. Both men were released from custody on undertakings to appear in court, police said. 

The third stabbing happened outside on Alfred Avenue around 11:30 p.m., police said. 

A man in his 40s was stabbed during a robbery, He was taken to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable. 

Police and the K9 unit were unable to locate a man believed to be involved in the incident. 

“The suspect was not known to the person, so this was a random event, so of course, those are always typically concerning,” police spokesperson Const. Dani McKinnon said Saturday. 

She said police couldn’t immediately release any information about what was stolen from the victim because it could be a factor leading to an arrest.

The Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the stabbings and are trying to get a better description of the man who fled the scene of the Alfred Avenue robbery.
