Montreal police have arrested a pair of teenagers after a fight escalated near a school in the city’s St-Michel neighbourhood Thursday afternoon.

Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant said a call came into 911 around 1 p.m. about an incident in an alleyway near Villeray Street near 10th Avenue.

Four teenagers, ranging from 15 to 19 years old in age, were stabbed during the altercation. Brabant said three of them were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Of the four adolescents, two of them were arrested in the late afternoon. The alleged suspects are both 15 years old.

Investigators are meeting with witnesses to learn more about what happened and what led to the fight. Several witnesses caught the incident on video, according to Brabant.

The altercation took place near a high school and adult education centre. A lockdown was issued and then lifted, Brabant said.

Quebec Public Security Minister François Bonnardel briefly addressed the incident on social media, saying that while not all the details are known yet he found it “immensely sad to see young people experience such a situation.”

“Violence is never the solution,” he wrote.

A heavy police presence was still visible in the area in the late afternoon and a safety perimeter was set up at the scene.
