5 National Trust properties in the North West to visit this festive season

At Rufford Old Hall, in Rufford, near Ormskirk, Father Christmas will be making an appearance in his grotto on select dates in December.

Children can tell him their Christmas wishes, receive a special gift, and have their photo taken with him.

The festive breakfast menu will be available in the Victorian tea room on select days, and visitors can also book a meeting with Father Christmas afterwards.

Little Moreton Hall, in Congleton, is inviting visitors to ‘step back in time’ and experience Christmas as it was celebrated in the past.

The hall will be open to visitors on select days in December, and merrymakers will be entertained by a jester and musical performances from historical music groups.

Quarry Bank, in Styal, is offering a ‘Merry Squeakmas Mouse Trail’, where families can track down festive mice that are helping with Christmas preparations.

The site also offers winter walks and a chance to see the Apprentice House and Quarry Bank House dressed for the season.

Sizergh, in Kendal, is opening its house for the first time in winter, where visitors can immerse themselves in a festive atmosphere.

The house will be decorated and bustling with activity reminiscent of Christmas Eves past.

Sizergh is also offering a nature-themed light and sound experience around the Knoll, which has been created by local artists.

The Knoll will be transformed into a ‘magical woodland path’ with thousands of dancing lights.

Lyme Park, in Disley, is offering a festive experience with its ‘Animal Crackers’ event, where the house is decorated and filled with unusual creature creations by artist Sophie Tyrrell.

The house will be open from November 29 to December 24, and visitors can enjoy the festive atmosphere, interact with the decorations, and explore the house.

Community choirs will perform on selected dates from November 30, and visitors can enjoy winter walks throughout the estate.

All these properties offer a unique way to celebrate the festive season, making them ideal for family outings during the holiday period.
