AUSTIN (KXAN) — As Central Texas continues to grow some industries are seeing growth as well, like the film industry.

Areas like Bastrop and San Marcos are getting new film studios and more and more movies are being filmed in Austin.

“Austin is such a creative hub in so many different ways, but with film making especially we have really seen it grow,” said Jesse Rosenberg, organizer of the The 512 ATX Short Film Festival.

Rosenberg is in his second year organizing the festival and this year there will be even more movies and directors featuring their short films.

“ATX Short Film Festival is a celebration of creative storytelling,” Rosenberg said.

The festival will feature a number of short films with the majority of the film makers from Austin.

Jack Kyser, a local film maker, will have his movie ‘Rusty Lightnin’ featured in the festival.

“There is a lot of stuff to prepare, pre production takes a while, said Kyser.

Kyser grew up in Austin, then moved away to New York for school and work, but now calls Austin home.

He says he’s happy to see a community that is so passionate about the film industry and hopes to continue seeing growth.

“So you will see a lot of filmmakers shooting in Austin and surrounding areas Bastrop Lockhart things like that,” Kyser said. “I submitted it (his film) to some fests around here and I have been honored to get some play out of it which has been really nice.”

The festival is next Saturday November 30th at AFS Cinema and will start at 7 pm.
