OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a shooting that occurred on Sept. 2 in the 2600 block of 74th Avenue.

OPD said when officers arrived, they found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the prompt response from paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, officials reported.

The victim, identified by family as 22-year-old Ramiro Reyes, was honored with a vigil on Saturday to celebrate his memory.

His sister-in-law, Gabriela Contreras Cifuentes, expressed the deep impact of his death, saying, “When there was a party, everything was quiet; the moment he walked in, he was full of laughter. He always had jokes. He looked at life very different. I’ve never seen him laugh or cry; he was always so happy and hard-working, and he cared about his daughter, about his family.”

The Oakland Police Department is actively investigating the shooting and urges anyone with information to contact 510-238-3821 or the TIP LINE at 238-7950.
