Acting Under Secretary Satterfield Travels to California – United States Department of State
From October 24-26, 2024, Acting Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Lee Satterfield will travel to Los Angeles, CA, where she and Recording Academy® CEO Harvey Mason jr. will cohost an event to celebrate the first-ever cohort of the American Music Mentorship Program (AMMP) and announce this year’s recipient of the PEACE Through Music Award.
Part of the Global Music Diplomacy Initiative, which Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken announced in 2023, the partnership with the Recording Academy promotes peace and democracy through music. The initiative also supports broader U.S. foreign policy goals that expand access to education, economic opportunity and equity, and inclusion.
AMMP is a mentorship program that brings together a cohort of 20 mid-level music professionals – producers, executives, lawyers, talent agents, and music tour and event promoters – from Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria with Recording Academy experts, leveraging their knowledge and networks to create and strengthen the creative economy ecosystem globally.
The PEACE Through Music Award recognizes outstanding contributions of an American music industry professional, artist, or group that has played an invaluable role in cross-cultural exchanges and whose music work advances peace and mutual understanding globally. Music icon Quincy Jones was the inaugural recipient in 2023.
