Admission to private medical colleges held up over fees; medical association threatens to stall admissions | – Times of India
MUMBAI: The Association of Managements of Unaided Private Medical and Dental Colleges of Maharashtra, in a letter to the state’s medical education secretary, has said that it will be stalling the admissions to MBBS and BDS courses at institutional level from the second round, as their demands over pending fee reimbursements from the govt were not met.
The association represents around 40 private medical and dental colleges.The second merit list for both MBBS and BDS courses was released after a delay of one day on October 1. The first round is already over. The letter mentioned that the representatives of the association met the medical education minister Hasan Mushrif and other officials from the department on September 26.
The association claimed that the the pendency of reimbursement of fees against various scholarship schemes is running into crores of rupees and making it difficult for colleges to sustain. The members of the association also pointed out that newer schemes announcing freeship to girl students from the EWS background has also added to their woes.
Earlier the govt allowed collecting fees from the students and then the fees were reimbursed to them but the new process prohibits them from collecting fees from students altogether at the time of admissions and therefore, they are completely dependent on the state govt for reimbursements, they said. The colleges had requested the govt to not publish the second merit list till their demands are met.
