Apple Files Patent For Smart Security Camera With Body Recognition Technology
Apple has received a patent for a security camera system that uses both facial recognition and “bodyprint” technology, identifying individuals based on their face, torso, or clothing, spotted Gadgets 360. The patent suggests Apple may be expanding into the smart home market, potentially with a wall-mounted tablet.

Apple’s newly granted patent outlines a security camera system that uses both facial recognition and a “bodyprint” feature to identify individuals. While facial recognition is standard in similar devices, this system also focuses on a person’s physical characteristics, such as their torso and clothing, which can be used when the camera cannot see their face. This dual recognition approach allows the system to identify individuals even without clear facial visibility.

The security camera would store and analyze images of individuals’ physical traits on a regular basis, using deep learning models to enhance identification accuracy. This data would be temporarily captured to help the system learn and recognize the physical characteristics of visitors to a user’s home. The integration of bodyprint and facial recognition aims to provide a more reliable and comprehensive security solution.
Once the system identifies a potential match, it will notify the user indoors, according to the patent details. Users can access these notifications and view a live feed from the security camera using an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV.

This patent follows reports by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who suggested that Apple is exploring the development of a privacy-focused home camera and other smart home devices. The first of these devices is expected to be a smart home hub that can control other home devices while supporting Apple apps like FaceTime.
Apple is reportedly developing a new smart display, its first major product since the Apple Vision Pro. Expected to serve as a central hub for smart home management, the device will combine features of an iPad and HomePod. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg notes that the display will have a compact screen on a circular base, reminiscent of the classic iMac G4 design.
