ChatGPT Unveils Screen Sharing And Live Video Feedback For Premium Users
OpenAI has rolled out a cool new feature for its popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, that allows users to share video and screens in real time, now available as part of the Advanced Voice Mode. This was unveiled at OpenAI’s ‘12 of Shipmas’ event, showing just how committed the company is to improve the user experience with its AI tech.
This new video and screen sharing feature makes interacting with ChatGPT even more hands-on. Users can easily start a video call by clicking on a video icon at the bottom left of the chat bar. It’s a great tool for anyone needing feedback on something visual, like a design or presentation, or even for getting help with tricky tasks such as solving complicated math problems. If users want to share their screen with ChatGPT, all they need to do is click on the three-dot menu and select the ‘Share Screen’ option. This way, ChatGPT can offer insights on what’s on the user’s screen, making the experience even more interactive.

The idea of adding vision features to ChatGPT was first teased back in May when OpenAI demonstrated GPT-4’s ability to interpret and describe gameplay. However, the feature faced delays as OpenAI didn’t feel it was quite ready for a full launch. While Advanced Voice Mode was released for some users in September, it didn’t initially include the vision capabilities that many were anticipating.
Now, with the full rollout of video and screen sharing, users on iOS and Android mobile apps- specifically those using ChatGPT Teams, Plus, and Pro- can start using this new functionality. ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu subscribers will also get access to the feature in January, expanding its availability. However, there is a bit of a catch: this feature won’t be available in several countries within the European Union due to regional restrictions.
This new feature puts OpenAI in direct competition with other tech companies like Google, which recently introduced a similar offering as part of its Project Astra. Currently being tested on Android, Project Astra also incorporates real-time video and screen sharing in AI-powered interactions. With both companies pushing the boundaries of AI-enhanced communication, the landscape for virtual assistants is evolving quickly.
In addition to these advancements, OpenAI has launched a fun holiday feature called ‘Santa Mode.’ This preset voice adds a festive, cheerful tone to interactions with ChatGPT, perfect for the holiday season. It’s another way OpenAI is making ChatGPT more engaging and versatile for users.
As AI technology continues to advance, tools like real-time video and screen sharing will likely become essential for anyone looking to get more complex tasks done or receive immediate feedback. These features are reshaping how we engage with AI and transforming the way we use it to solve problems and complete tasks.
