A 23-year-old cyclist is in hospital with what police say could be life-threatening injuries after colliding with an open door of a parked vehicle on Spring Garden Road in Halifax on Wednesday afternoon.

A 23-year-old cyclist is in hospital with what police say could be life-threatening injuries after colliding with an open door of a parked vehicle on Spring Garden Road in Halifax on Wednesday afternoon.

In a news release, police said they were called to the area at approximately 3:23 p.m. to respond to a vehicle-bicycle collision in the 5800 block of Spring Garden Road.

Police say the cyclist, a man, had been travelling east on Spring Garden Road when he was injured. 

Traffic was closed between South Park Street and Summer Street for about two hours.
