Denver is warmer than these US cities on Christmas Eve

DENVER (KDVR) — Whether you are spending your Christmas Eve traveling or doing some last-minute shopping, Denver will be mild and above average. In fact, the Mile High City will actually be warmer than some cities in Texas and California.

The National Weather Service releases a daily daytime high-temperature map for major cities across the U.S. On Christmas Eve, Denver’s high will be in the mid-50s. Normally, Denver should be around 42 degrees on Dec. 24.

If you were hoping for a white Christmas this year, you will have to book a last-minute flight to the Great Lakes area or the East Coast. But if you enjoy the dry and mild conditions, take a look at how Denver’s temperature compares to the rest of the U.S.

Texas

While Texas is often stereotyped as a very hot and humid state, certain cities can get cold in the winter. In fact, one section of Texas will be colder than Denver on Christmas Eve.

According to the NWS, the northern tip of Texas that borders Oklahoma will be in the 50s.

Amarillo, Texas has a high of 50 degrees on Dec. 24 — which is about average for that city, but since Denver is above average, the Mile High City is warmer.

Denver will also be warmer than Lubbock, Texas.

Northern Nevada

According to the NWS, Denver is warmer than some cities in Nevada as they are under a winter weather advisory. Cities like Austin, Ely and Eureka, Nevada in the northern half of the state will only have a high of 48 degrees on Tuesday.

But don’t worry, Las Vegas will still be on the warmer side, with a high of 66 degrees on Christmas Eve.

California

North Central California is also dealing with a winter weather advisory ahead of Christmas. The advisory extends from the northern border of the state to Mammoth Lakes and Yosemite Valley.

According to the NWS, South Lake Tahoe will only make it to 41 degrees on Dec. 24 — about 14 degrees colder than Denver.

Washington, DC

The nation’s capital is also under a winter weather advisory just in time for Christmas. On Tuesday their forecast high is only 43 degrees.

According to the NWS, Washington D.C. has an average temperature of 41 degrees in December, similar to Denver, but this year, the Mile High City is around 10 degrees warmer than the capital.

Another perspective to compare Denver’s warmer-than-average temperatures at the end of December is seeing which cities are just as warm as the Mile High City.

According to the NWS, on Christmas Eve, Denver is as warm as Atlanta, Flagstaff, Arizona and Nashville, with all the cities hovering in the mid-50s.

The mild conditions will stick around as Christmas is expected to be in the lower 50s for Denver. Temperatures could increase to the low 60s by Sunday.
