Did you know ‘Squid Game’ director lost his teeth while making the sequel? | – Times of India
They say everything comes at a cost. Filmmakers and creators are often quoted confessing that they have given their blood and sweat to a project. Now in the case of ‘Siquid Game Season 2,’ director Hwang Dong Hyuk confessed he had given his teeth.
In his recent interview with BBC, Hwang Dong Hyuk opened up about making the second season of the popular ‘Siquid Game.’ The thriller series kept the audience glued to the edge of their seats; and thus, while writing the sequel Hwang was under a lot of pressure and stress. So much so that he lost nine teeth due to stress.
Initially, the director had no plans of making the sequel, but who doesn’t like massive earnings? However, as the first season set an unrealistic benchmark, the creator had to ensure the second season does justice to the franchise. Also, in the first season, almost every member of the cast meets a fatal fate and thus, the new season had to be penned with a new cast, new plotline, and new challenges, while maintaining a thread connecting it with the first season.
He told the media outlet, “Even though the first series was such a huge global success, honestly I didn’t make much. So doing the second series will help compensate me for the success of the first one too.”
He added, “And I didn’t fully finish the story,” as reported by The Independent.
With the new series, Lee Jung Jae will reprise the role of Gi-Hum. He will return to bring down the institution. In addition, everything new, including certain loose threads from season one will be explained in the upcoming sequel.
‘Squid Game Season 2’ will be available for online streaming on Netflix from December 26, 2024. The franchise will end with the third installment according to Hwang.
