Dodgers fan seriously hurt in fall from building during victory celebration
A Dodgers fan was rushed to a hospital after witnesses said he fell from a building during the team’s World Series Championship celebration in downtown Los Angeles on Friday.
The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of 8th and Flower streets, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told KTLA 5 News.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the patient fell from the 3rd floor of a structure,” police said.
Video shared with KTLA 5 News shows two bystanders tending to the bloodied man, who was wearing a Dodgers jacket, as officers created a perimeter within the crowd that had gathered to attend the team’s victory parade.
A witness said the man appeared to be breathing and moving slightly, although a significant amount of blood was visible on the pavement.
The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
Elsewhere in downtown L.A., one person was arrested for allegedly throwing a bottle at police officers after much of the parade crowd had cleared in the early afternoon. Police formed a skirmish line to disperse the unruly crowd.
The Dodgers won the franchise’s eighth World Series title, defeating the New York Yankees in five games. The downtown L.A. rally was followed by a sold-out victory rally at Dodger Stadium.
