WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10)– One person has died after a one-car crash in the town of Wappinger on Wednesday. Yanique Jackson, 23, of Poughkeepsie was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6:20 p.m. to All Angels Hill Road near Dugan Lane for reports of a serious crash. When deputies arrived, they found a 2007 Infiniti sedan, carrying five people, had left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Deputies said a preliminary investigation determined the vehicle was traveling southbound when it lost control. Four people were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries; Jackson, the backseat passenger, suffered life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

On Thursday, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said they believe unsafe speed was a factor in the crash. However, the office’s detective bureau and crash investigation unit are still looking into what happened.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, New York State Police, Village of Wappingers Falls Police, New Hackensack Fire Department, Hughsonville Fire Department, East Fishkill Fire Department, and Empress Ambulance.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the moments leading up to it can call 845-486-3820. The sheriff’s office can also be contacted via the tip line at 845-605-2583 or dcsotips@gmail.com.
