Maharashtra, Jharkhand Election Results 2024 Live Updates: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti alliance secured a landslide victory in Maharashtra, and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led INDIA bloc stormed back to power in Jharkhand, as the results of the assembly elections in the two states were announced on Saturday.
In Maharashtra, the Mahayuti coalition of the BJP, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party won 235 of the 288 assembly seats, with the BJP securing 132 alone. Political circles are abuzz that Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will don the post of the Chief Minister for a third time. In the evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “The biggest message from Maharashtra after the Haryana polls is unity; ‘ek hain to safe hain’ has become the country’s ‘mahamantra’.”
In Jharkhand, the JMM and its allies secured 56 out of the total 81 assembly seats. JMM leader Hemant Soren, who is set to return as Chief Minister, said: “I want to thank the people of all communities and all the farmers, women and youth of the state for casting their votes with the majority and making this election successful….”
The votes for 48 assembly and two Lok Sabha bypolls across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala, West Bengal and Uttarakhand were also counted. In Kerala’s Wayanad, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra won the Lok Sabha bypoll with a thumping margin of over four lakh votes, surpassing her brother Rahul Gandhi’s victory margin in the Lok Sabha polls, in her electoral debut.
Here are the live updates on the assembly election results 2024:

Sreejaya Chavan, daughter of former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan, won her debut assembly poll contest from Bhokar seat in Nanded district by trouncing Congress rival Tirupati Kadam Kondhekar by 50,551 votes.
Taking a swipe at the INDIA bloc over its poor performance in Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “They are not able to understand the changed mood of the country. These people not only do not want to accept the truth, they even today underestimate the discretion of the common voter of India. The voters of the country are with the idea of ‘Nation First’. The voters of the country do not like those who dream of the ‘chair first’.”

In a major triumph, the Trinamool Congress is set for a clean sweep in all six bypolls, retaining four seats, wresting Madarihat from the BJP, and leading in one, further cementing its political dominance in West Bengal, even as the ongoing protests over the RG Kar incident failed to sway voters.

We complained continuously… Jairam Ramesh had complained about the name being deleted from the Election Commission’s website from the house of a woman BJP leader. Whether we win or lose, we will continue to question the election process. In a country where exam papers are leaked, can we blindly trust the machines?”
