Flooding, scattered power outages possible as heavy rain approaches Newfoundland | CBC News
A low-pressure system approaching Newfoundland on Thursday evening is expected to bring up to 20 millimetres of rain per hour and last until Saturday morning.
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the Avalon, Burin, Connaigre, Bonavista and Clarenville areas. Between 80 and 120 millimetres of rain is expected, with higher amounts possible in some areas.
Heavy rain is expected Thursday evening and will likely last throughout Friday. Wind is expected to pick up as the system moves off the island on Saturday.
The warning says similar systems have caused road washouts, power outages and flooding, as well as delays to ferry services.
