Former Douglas County Sheriff's Office employee arrested on sexual misconduct charges
DENVER (KDVR) — A former employee for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested for sexual misconduct charges, the sheriff’s office announced in a press release on Tuesday.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office received a tip on Oct. 20, that a woman assigned as a crew leader on the Detention Division held inappropriate relations with an inmate.
An investigation was initiated following the tip and the detectives found probable cause that, Alexis Montoya, 43, had committed a crime. Montoya started employment with the sheriff’s office on Oct. 12, 2023. Nearly a year later she was placed on administrative leave without pay on Oct. 22, 2024.
Montoya resigned from her position on Dec. 4. A warrant was issued for her arrest and she turned herself into the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 9, according to the press release.
Montoya was charged with Sexual Conduct in a Correctional Institution.
“Maintaining the integrity and trust of our office is a top priority. This former employee’s actions are a serious betrayal of that trust and the values we uphold. This behavior will not be tolerated, and we will ensure justice is served while continuing to hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct,” said Sheriff Darren Weekly.
The case will be handled by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
