The Pixel 9 Pro is one of the latest entries in Google’s flagship Pixel series, boasting a stunning display and advanced camera features. While it carries a premium price tag, the actual cost to produce the device is much lower than one might expect. According to a recent report, the estimated cost to manufacture the Pixel 9 Pro is approximately $406 (around Rs 34,000), which is significantly less than the retail price of Rs 1,09,999 in India.

So, what makes up this $406 cost? A large portion of the production expense is attributed to the device’s key components, particularly the custom-built Tensor G4 chipset. This powerful chip costs Google $80 (around Rs 6,700), playing a central role in the Pixel 9 Pro’s performance. Additionally, the Samsung-made M14 display contributes $75 (roughly Rs 6,320) to the overall manufacturing cost, while the advanced camera system adds about $61 (around Rs 5,100). Interestingly, although the cost of the chip has slightly increased compared to previous models, Google has managed to save on the display and camera components, which has helped keep the overall production cost down.

The Pixel 9 Pro is actually about 11 percent cheaper to produce than its predecessor, the Pixel 8 Pro. However, this decrease in cost isn’t purely due to cheaper components. The Pixel 9 Pro features a smaller display and battery, which directly impacts the overall production cost. Despite these savings, the Pixel 9 Pro still delivers a high-quality user experience, thanks to its well-optimized hardware and software integration.

The retail price of Rs 1,09,999 for the Pixel 9 Pro includes more than just the cost of manufacturing. It accounts for other essential business expenses, such as shipping, marketing, distribution, and research and development costs, all of which contribute to the final price consumers pay. Even with a lower production cost, the price remains premium due to these additional factors.

When comparing the Pixel 9 Pro to other flagship devices, like Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro, the difference in production costs becomes more apparent. The iPhone 16 Pro is estimated to cost about $568 (around Rs 47,800) to produce, with its A18 Pro chip alone priced at $135 (about Rs 11,300). While Apple’s production costs are higher, both companies still price their devices at a premium to reflect the full array of expenses involved in bringing their products to market.

While the Pixel 9 Pro is less expensive to produce than it seems, its price tag reflects the added costs of marketing, logistics, and research, as well as the brand value that both Google and Apple command in the premium smartphone market. Despite the lower manufacturing cost, the Pixel 9 Pro still stands out as a high-performance device offering a range of cutting-edge features.
