Gun and IEDs seized after armed robbery at Holt Renfrew in Vancouver, police say
An armed robbery at a Holt Renfrew in downtown Vancouver ended with police arresting a 66-year-old man and seizing several weapons, including a pair of improvised explosive devices, according to authorities.
The high-end retailer was robbed shortly before noon on Monday, when a 911 caller reported that “someone had entered the store, threatened to shoot staff, and attempted to steal merchandise,” the Vancouver Police Department said in a news release.
“Officers arrested the suspect outside the store, with help from a witness,” the department said.
Police said they then seized a gun, two IEDs and other weapons.
“The explosive devices were later rendered safe by explosive technicians from VPD’s Emergency Response Section,” authorities added.
The suspect, Douglas Ewing, has since been charged with robbery, uttering threats to cause death, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Police said Ewing remained in custody as of Wednesday morning, pending his next court appearance.
