Fire engines from Lymm, Wilmslow, Winsford and Wythenshawe, as well as police and paramedics, responded to a call to the M56 eastbound between junctions seven, for Bowden, and six, for Manchester airport, at 2.57am on Friday, November 29.
Police confirmed the driver of one of the HGVs, who was ‘extricated’ by officers from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, was seriously injured and taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary by paramedics.
The drivers of the other two were unharmed.
The eastbound carriage was closed and a diversion was put in place while emergency services staff worked.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 2.30am on Friday, November 29, police were called to a collision the M56 between junctions six and seven involving three HGVs.
“One person sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary for treatment.
“The drivers of the other two vehicles were uninjured.”
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews were called to a road traffic collision involving three large goods vehicles on the M56 eastbound between junctions seven and six.
“Police were in attendance and closed the road while crews assisted the casualties.
“One person was extricated and later taken to hospital by paramedics.”
