The yellow weather warning, which covers West Sussex, comes into effect from 5pm today and ends at 10am tomorrow.

It comes as areas of the county saw snow this morning.

The Met Office warned icy stretches will lead to some “difficult travelling conditions”.

The next bout of cold weather is being swept in by Storm Bert, the second named storm of the season, which is forecast to bring snow, rain and strong winds to parts of the UK this weekend.

Storm Bert has been named by the Met Office, with wind gusts of up to 70mph expected in some areas.

Heavy snowfall could bring further disruption to parts of the country while heavy rain is also likely, especially in western parts.

What should people expect?

  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

“Icy stretches are expected to form on untreated surfaces during Thursday evening and overnight into Friday morning as temperatures drop below freezing,” the weather forecaster said.

“A few wintry showers are also likely at times, particularly across the far west of the warning area, which may give a further one to 2cm snowfall above 200 metres.”
