I’m A Celeb star sparks fears he’ll quit show as he weeps after hellish night
I’M A Celebrity fans are fearing Melvin Odoom could quit the show after the camp’s morale hit an all-time low.
The Australian jungle has been hit with wet weather throughout this series, with an overnight storm leaving the camp waterlogged and attracting frogs and rats.
It got so bad that Ant and Dec were almost unable to make it to their studio for Saturday night’s show as roads were flooded.
On tonight’s episode, following another particularly bad evening, the camp were left wondering how much longer they could handle it.
But DJ Melvin Odoom, who has been sleeping on a hammock, seemed to get it particularly tough overnight, with all his belongings and sleeping bag left drenched.
As a result he ended up having to move and spend the night in the Bush Telegraph.
Explaining what happened to him, he told the campmates: “I woke up, my sleeping bag was wet, my clothes were wet, everything.”
Breaking down in tears, Melvin was supported by his co-stars, with Barry McGuigan offering him a hug and some words to keep his spirits up.
“You’ll be alright, you’re gonna be absolutely fine,” Barry told him.
“We’re all here for you, anytime you want us to help you or talk to you whatever. You can do it, you’re tough as hell I’m telling you!”
Oti Mabuse also rushed to help her pal, also giving him comfort and a pep talk reminding him: “Everyone will be proud of you, I promise you. It’s ok, you’re human.”
“Remember why we’re here,” she told him. “The thing why you and I are pushing is because this is bigger than just you and I and we constantly have to remember why we’re here, what we stand for and who is watching us. And what it means when we do well.
“You know what it means? That’s why we wake up every day.”
The words got through to Melvin, who asked her to stay with him while he gathered himself.
“I’ll stay here as long as you need, I won’t go anywhere, I’ve got you until the end,” she told him.
But his emotional moment has left fans fearing Oti’s support won’t be enough, and if the weather continues, he could make an early exit away from the public vote.
“Melvin just broke my heart, bless him. He needed that cry then,” wrote one viewer.
“Oh my god I wanna give Melvin a massive cuddle,” said a second, while a third wrote: “Can we vote for a surprise visit from Carol Vorderman to cheer Melvin up”
“Someone from production team need to check in with Melvin please!” noted a fourth.
“That level of defeat is so understandable Melvin has been working his ass off in that camp doing group jobs on his own and then he wakes up soaking wet and has to go sleep in a tiny shed,” wrote a fifth.
The gang are in the final week of I’m A Celebrity, with an elimination happening every night through to the finale next Sunday.
Jane Moore became the first star to go on Friday night, which she’s since made no secret that she’s disappointed.
But she hoped Melvin would be one of the stars that would make it to the end, calling him a “hard-worker” in comparison to some of the others still on the show.
