Kanguva Film Editor Found Dead At Kochi Home, Police Begin Investigation

Reports have revealed that the editor of the film Kanguva was found dead at his home in Kochi. Nishad Yusuf died at the age of 43 on October 30th, 2024. Malayalam media reports revealed that he was found in his apartment in Panampilly Nagar at 2 am. Police reports have not confirmed the cause of death as an investigation is underway.

India Today report revealed that police officials have not released any statements yet. Meanwhile, The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) Directors’ Union confirmed the death through a Facebook post from the official account. The statement in Malayalam celebrated the work of the late editor and said, “The unexpected demise of Nishadh Yusuf, film editor, who played a major role in determining the contemporary future of the changing Malayalam cinema is not something the film world will be able to quickly accept. Condolences from FEFKA Directors’ Union.”

Nishad Yusuf was best known for his work in Malayalam and Tamil cinema. He has worked on notable films such as Thallumaala, Unda, One, Saudi Vellakka, and Adios Amigos. Yusuf was also honoured with the State Award for Best Editor for his work on Thallumaala in 2022.

His last known project was led by Suriya and Bobby Deol. The pan-India film Kanguva is slated to be released in theatres on November 14. As per FEFKA Yusuf had several more projects in hand. He had been editing the upcoming Mohanlal and Mammotty-starrer Bazooka. Was also slated to be part of Alappuzha Gymkhana.

Coming back to the investigation, a report by Matrubhoomi stated that the Kerala Police are investigating the death and have not ruled out any possibility.
