Lorraine apologises on air for using phrase she ‘didn’t know’ was a swear word
LORRAINE Kelly was forced to apologise live on air this morning after using a Scottish phrase she “didn’t know” was a swear word.
The telly presenter, 64, was joined by Emmerdale actress Nicola Wheeler during today’s show.
During the segment, the pair discuss the brutal weather conditions while shooting scenes in the fictional village.
Nicola said: “There are long horrible cold days when you are out in the village all day and it’s raining and windy so you’ve got to have that sense of humour with each other because words take up a lot of your life so if you’re not having fun it makes life miserable so our aim is to have fun.”
Recalling her own experience on the set, Lorraine responds: “I do remember being there when we did the show live from Emmerdale and the last time we did it the school pack was lovely and cosy with lots of fire.”
The sofa queen then blurts out: “But we have been outside and it was bollocking.”
Nicola replies: “The village is like a wind tunnel because there can be a mild breeze around the village but down that main street it’s like blowing a gale every time and I’m always taken where my hair is blowing in the wind.”
The show’s viewers were quick to see the funny side of the blunder as they flocked to X to react.
One person wrote: “Hahaha, Lorraine said ‘bollocking’ on live TV.”
Another said: “Ooohermissus! Lorraine just said ‘bollocking’ but live caption editor censored it to ‘freezing’.”
A third weighed in: “Did she just say bollocking?”
A fourth added: “Lorraine Kelly not knowing that ‘bollocking’ is a rude word though.”
Red-faced Lorraine then apologises for the mistake later on in the show.
She adds: “Now earlier on when I was talking to Nicola I said a bad word and I didn’t know it was a bad word because in Scotland we say that word all the time.
“I want to say it again but I can’t, I said a word for cold, which you all know but anyway…”
It comes days after Lorraine spent quality time with daughter Rosie, 30, and granddaughter Billie at the luxury five-star Cromlix Hotel.
It was three-month-old baby Billie’s first trip to Scotland since she was born in August, and Lorraine revealed that the country had a miraculous effect on the little one.
The excited gran explained that it was the first time that she had slept through the night and credited the hotel for being “so lovely”.
Rosie also took her daughter to her first Dundee United game during the family weekend, much to the delight of her mum.
