On Gurpurab we take part in Prabhat Pheri: Harbhajan & Geeta | Hindi Movie News – Times of India
Former cricketer, Harbhajan Singh and his actress wife Geeta Basra diligently observe every tradition associated with Gurpurab. The couple involve their children too, handholding them through the rituals to inculcate cultural lessons for posterity.
“We usually go to the Gurdwara and pray,” says Harbhajan, adding, “When we’re in Punjab, we participate in Prabhat Pheri in the early mornings and do paath, have langar, and decorate the entire house with lights and flowers.” He adds, “We like preparing kada prasad at home on this day and our kids love it too. We also get some of our favourite Punjabi delicacies like Chole Bhature, and Rajma Chawal made at home.”
Geeta recalls how the day had added more auspiciousness when she was married to Bhajji. “When we got married, Gurpurab came right after,” she says, adding, “The whole house was beautifully lit up. We had a tent outside, and there were a lot of people. I served food to everyone. I was pregnant at that time, and I received the blessings of Babaji. Afterward, we all went to the gurdwara and prayed.”
The couple is teaching their kids to cultivate spirituality. Says Geeta, “It is our duty to guide our kids along the right path and help them follow the teachings of the Guru. It’s not just about religion. Our kids are born into both, a Sikh and Hindu family, so we teach them the values of both religions. Ultimately, we want them to be good people because every religion boils down to one thing- doing good deeds and following the right path in life.”
She adds, “Our daughter meditates with me. I feel meditation brings a calmness and sense of direction. It’s important that kids don’t grow up aimlessly; they need to follow some path. And celebrating Gurpurab is just reinforcing that following in them.”
