The Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) say they have arrested multiple people, following a heavy police presence on College Street near downtown Sudbury.

Police said they were called to a residential building on College Street Monday morning for a weapons complaint. Officers closed College Street from Adie Street to Davidson Street near Sudbury Secondary School for the police investigation.

GSPS say a negotiator, the emergency response unit and K-9 unit were sent to the area, and it was believed a person was inside a residential building unit and believed to be in possession of a firearm.

In an update early Monday afternoon, police say officers made entry into the residential unit and took multiple people into custody without incident.

GSPS say officers will remain on scene as detectives will be applying for a search warrant of the residence.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing but police say there is no risk to public safety.
