And a former Light Blues captain reckons there’s only ONE option for the club should they part ways with the beleaguered boss.

Discontent among the Rangers support heightened further at the weekend after another poor result.

The Gers were held to a 1-1 draw by Dundee United at Ibrox on Saturday.

Celtic’s 4-1 win over Hearts later that night means the gap between the two Glasgow rivals now sits at 11 points.

Aberdeen are still occupying second spot in the Scottish Premiership table despite having taken just one point from their last two matches.

Not for the first time this season, Rangers were booed off at the final whistle, although huge chunks of the support had already left by that point.

Despite fervent social media rumours on Sunday that Clement’s exit was set to be confirmed by the club, those claims proved unfounded and he is still very much the Rangers manager.

However, with the pressure ramping up on Clement, talk has inevitably turned to who could replace him in the event that Rangers do decide to make a change.

Former Rangers defender Craig Moore reckons there’s only one option for his former club should that situation arise.

The former Australia defender is a close ally of Kevin Muscat, the man who missed out on the job to Clement just over a year ago.

Muscat instead headed for China where he’s just won the league title with Shanghai Port.

Appearing on the Go Radio Football Show, Moore all but ruled out any chance of Muscat replacing Clement at Ibrox as he expects him to continue his work in Asia.

However, the former Gers skipper reckons another of his former Light Blues teammates would be the ‘only’ option as the club’s next manager.

He said: “He (Muscat) is doing brilliantly.

“His Asian experience is going to continue. I don’t see how anything would fall into place.

“I think there’s only one option if Rangers pull the trigger – and it’s a domestic option of Derek McInnes.”

He added: “At this moment in time, he (Muscat) has just finished a Champions League game, they won 3-1, so they have still got games and focus.

“I don’t think that phone call is going to happen.

“The reality is Kevin Muscat was extremely keen on the job when he interviewed for the job twice before Philippe Clement got it.

“There have been no conversations ongoing, even during this period.”

Moore went on to express how ‘disappointed’ Muscat was to miss out on the Ibrox job.

At the time of the conversations, Muscat – who spent a year as a Rangers player between 2002 and 2003 – was in charge of Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos.

Moore continued: “I think anyone who interviews for a job and doesn’t get it is disappointed.

“He was disappointed, because he believed he could close the gap and change things.

“That opportunity wasn’t available to Kevin and was available to Philippe.”
