Remaining Sunday ferry crossings between N.S., P.E.I. cancelled due to weather | CBC News

Ferry crossings between eastern P.E.I. and northern Nova Scotia have been cancelled for the rest of Sunday due to weather conditions.

The MV Confederation made three trips between Wood Islands, P.E.I., and Caribou, N.S., before Northumberland Ferries announced the afternoon trips would be cancelled and the 11:45 a.m. crossing out of Caribou would be the final one of the day.

The Confederation Bridge website also advised that Sunday’s wind conditions may result in traffic restrictions on the bridge between approximately 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The MV Confederation made its first crossing Wednesday since Sept. 15 after being damaged in a collision with the wharf in Wood Islands.

The ferry only made one round trip before experiencing technical issues. The following day, the crossings were cancelled due to poor weather conditions.

Another ship, MV Fanafjord, is undergoing sea trials in Norway and is expected to be in service next year. However, Wood Islands Harbour needs to be dredged to accommodate the ship, which won’t begin until next fall.
