The top three are all in action in the Premier League this afternoon.
Alexander Isak’s first half goal was enough to secure the hosts the win at St James’ Park.
Liverpool have moved to the top of the Premier League.
They came from behind to beat Brighton 2-1 thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah.
Manchester City have dropped to second after they suffered their first defeat of the campaign – they were beaten 2-1 at Bournemouth, finishing their 32-game unbeaten run.
Newcastle ended their five-game winless run in the Premier League by beating Arsenal 1-0.
Nottingham Forest are third in the table. Chris Wood scored his eighth goal of the season as they beat West Ham 3-nil.
Southampton got their first victory since promotion to the top flight. Adam Armstrong’s strike secured them a 1-nil success at home to Everton.
Jordan Ayew’s 94th minute equaliser earned Leicester a 1-all draw at winless Ipswich.
Wolves and Crystal Palace played out a 2-2 draw in the late game.
Gaelic games
The Ulster Club Football Championship gets underway with a derby at Omagh’s Healy Park this evening.
Tyrone’s Errigal Ciaran, who defended their county title last week, take on the 16-time Donegal champions St Eunan’s at 7.15pm.
Meanwhile, Castletown-Geoghegan are the Westmeath hurling champions after winning the final at the second time of asking today.
They needed a replay with Lough Lene Gaels after the first decider was called off due to poor weather conditions last Sunday.
Ten points from Niall O’Brien sent Castletown-Geoghegan on their way to a 1-27 to 2-17 victory in Mullingar.
And Erne Gaels defeated Enniskillen Gaels by 1-13 to 1-9 in the Fermanagh Senior Football final at Brewster Park.
Rugby
Four days after Graham Rowntree departed as their head coach, Munster put their focus on matters on the pitch this evening.
