Sky land No. 3 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft
The Sky came into the draft lottery with a 22.7% chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick.
Those odds, however, didn’t paint the full picture. The Sky never had an actual shot at landing Paige Bueckers, the expected first-overall pick in the 2025 draft, because of a 2023 trade with the Wings. In a trade for Marina Mabrey, former coach/general manager James Wade gave the Wings the right to swap first-round picks in the 2025 draft.
Sunday, the Sky — represented by Angel Reese — landed the No. 3 overall pick. The Wings claimed the No. 1 pick over the Sparks, who had the best odds of landing the top pick. In 2024 the Sky selected center Kamilla Cardoso with the No. 3 overall pick and Reese at No. 7.
The Sky currently have four draft picks. General manager Jeff Pagliocca acquired the No. 10 overall pick from the Sun in a package for Mabrey after the guard forced her way out of Chicago. They will also have the seventh pick in the second round which was acquired from the Mercury for 2021 Finals MVP Kahleah Copper after she requested out. The No. 28 overall pick is their last in the upcoming draft.
