A 15-year-old St. Thomas, Ont. student was arrested Tuesday after a violent altercation at a local high school, south of London.

At 11:30 a.m., St. Thomas police responded to reports from school staff of violence between two individuals. One victim was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries, police said.

The 15-year-old was charged with assault.

Police said the youth was taken to St. Thomas Police Service (STPS) headquarters, and later released on an undertaking with a future court date.

The incident is the third instance of high school violence to occur in St. Thomas since the start of the school year.

On Sept. 6 police were called by the parent of a 16-year-old victim reporting that their teen had been assaulted on school property by a former acquaintance. As a result of the assault, the victim was treated for minor injuries and a concussion.

A 16-year-old was charged with one count assault.

St. Thomas police are also investigating an assault that occurred at a local high school on Sept. 12. They were made aware of the alleged violence between two students while at the school on an unrelated call for service, police said.

STPS chief Marc Roskamp was unable to provide a direct statement to CBC News on the matter of school violence following Tuesdsay’s arrest, however he reiterated his support for the return of police officers in schools.
