Production of the first new generation of the Murano in a very long time (the previous generation arrived in 2014) has just started. The first copies of the 2025 Nissan Murano meant for customers have just rolled off the production line in Smyrna, Tennessee.

The Tennessee plant started building the Murano in 2020. Since then, it has built more than 145,000 copies for the US and Canada. Nissan hopes to increase those numbers quickly, with production ramping up quickly by March 2025. If it hits targets, it will be the brand’s second-best-selling crossover by a large margin.
All-New Murano At Dealers In Early 2025
It’s been a long time since the Nissan Murano crossover was all-new. The last model was unveiled way back in April 2014, which means two generations have passed for most vehicles during its life. The funky Murano has always been big on style, and this fourth generation doesn’t change that. The two-level nose, oddball wheels, and the “can’t quite put our finger on it” strangeness of the roofline all contribute.

While it took Nissan four years to build 145,000 copies of the old Murano, it should top that figure much more quickly with the new one. Nissan says it is aiming to hit 6,700 vehicles per month by March 2025. At that rate, the all-new Murano would eclipse the old version’s production volume in under two years.
Nissan had a ceremony to mark the first copies of the crossover to roll off the line. Workers at the plant as well as their colleagues from Nissan’s nearby Decherd Powertrain Plant – where the Murano’s 241-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder is built – and local community leaders were in attendance.

Tennessee Plant Just Hit 40 Years Of Operation
Nissan’s Smyrna plant opened in 1983 and was the first automobile assembly plant in the state. Since then, the Tennessee auto industry has flourished and is home to both Volkswagen and GM plants, as well as a Toyota manufacturing facility and a planned Ford plant.

Smyrna started out building Nissan pickups, followed by the Sentra in 1985 and the Altima in 1993. Today, the plant employs nearly 6,000 workers. Its production capacity is 640,000 units per year, and it builds vehicles including the Pathfinder, Rogue, and Infiniti QX60.
The first 2025 Nissan Muranos will be delivered to customers starting in early 2025. Pricing for the new model has yet to be announced.
