2024 marks 40 years since The Tragically Hip formed, and it’s been a year of reminiscing. The band released a four-part docuseries, The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal, that gives fans a comprehensive look at their career, and there’s a companion coffee table book titled This Is Our Life.

Now there’s a third part to the anniversary celebrations: a feature interview between the band and journalist Tara Slone through the CBC Music Presents: Live at Massey Hall episode This is Our Life: In Conversation With The Tragically Hip.

“What got us through, you know, the gigs where literally no one was there, literally … we didn’t draw as well as the Jello wrestlers that were downstairs,” Gord Sinclair joked in the special. “But it takes that camaraderie, that we still feel now, and this has been a great process for looking back on that.”

“That’s one of the best things about being in a band is you walk offstage and say, ‘I had a shit night tonight,’ and the other guys say, ‘Really? I had a great night tonight.’ So at the end of the day, there’s never anything worse than a B+ night. They were all good nights,” Rob Baker reminisced.
