SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Sun is shining over San Diego on this Friday afternoon, a welcome sign for beachgoers who’ve been stuck in the fog for the last few days.

Dense fog was reported early Friday morning, but much of it has lifted with the exception of coastal waters. Boaters should beware of a lower visibility through Saturday morning, including near the beach.

A weaker inversion is allowing for coastal clouds to clear again with temperatures just slightly warmer than yesterday for beaches and inland valleys.

Similar pattern for Saturday with daytime highs at the coast in the mid-70’s, mid to upper-80’s for inland valleys, mid-70’s for mountains and right near 100 degrees for desert communities.

A big change up is coming early next week, starting with a drop in temperatures and a deeper marine layer. A trough of low pressure will move into Northern California over the weekend, followed by a much deeper trough middle of next week.

That second system could bring us some showers for Thursday but there still a bit of uncertainty regarding timing and amounts.

A fun combo swell will hit Southern California, a bit of a NW swell from that Gulf of Alaska system will mix in with a SSW Friday and Saturday. Better breaks are on tap for North County with chest to shoulder high sets.
