Welding competition held at HVCC
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Some local students who have been learning how to weld had the chance to put their skills to the test. The New York State Steel Fabricators Association hosted a welding competition at Hudson Valley Community College on Monday.
Ten students took part in a variety of timed activities. The top three performers received prizes, but organizers said the competition is about much more.
“The ideal outcome today is the students are going to be prepared for when they get interviewed for a job, and they have to go in and do a weld test and a print reading test,” HVCC Welding and Fabrication instructor Sean Mendez said. “They’re going to go in and have the experience that they need to successfully pass that test, and hopefully, get a job.”
This is the second year of the competition. The school hopes to make it an annual event.
