Expect some facility closures this Thanksgiving Monday in Hamilton with some services remaining open, but with limited scheduling.
Here’s a look at what services are available and what’s open and closed as people in the city plan for the long holiday weekend.
Grocery stores
Local grocery stores are open Saturday and Sunday, but closed Monday for the holiday.
Beer Store and LCBO
Most Beer Store outlets, including those in Hamilton, are closed on Oct. 14.
LCBO locations are also closed on the holiday.
Hamilton malls
CF Lime Ridge will be closed on Thanksgiving Monday.
The Centre on Barton says people should check with individual stores for their opening hours.
Library and Farmers’ Market
All Hamilton Public Library branches will be closed Sunday and Monday.
Bookmobile, Extended Access, and Study Hall services are not available.
Regular service hours resume on Tuesday.
The Hamilton Farmers’ Market will be closed both Sunday and Monday, before reopening Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It is also open Thursday and Friday during the same hours and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Bus service
The HSR will operate on a Sunday schedule on Oct. 14, including reductions in the late evening that will result in the last trips leaving from downtown at 10 p.m.
Trans-Cab service will align with HSR Sunday schedule.
ATS-DARTS
DARTS will be following holiday service hours on Monday.
All subscription trips, except for dialysis, are cancelled on Oct. 14 as well.
Any passengers who need to travel that day must have booked reservations up to five days in advance.
Museums, rec centres and Gage Park greenhouse
All of Hamilton’s civic museums will be closed on Monday.
The Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse will also be shuttered on Oct. 14.
Arenas, recreation centres, senior clubs and senior centres will be shut down too.
Waste and recycling
Green carts, blue boxes and garbage won’t be picked up Monday, along with bulk and yard waste.
Community recycling centres and transfer stations will also be closed.
Pick-up will happen one day later. Waste must be at the curb by 7 a.m.
Animal Services
The Animal Services Shelter will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

City services
Hamilton’s municipal service centres will be closed on Oct. 14.
The provincial offences office at 50 Main St. E will not be open Monday, but online payments for traffic violations and parking tickets can be paid online.
City administration offices will be closed for the holiday, along with all the Ontario Works offices, Housing Services and Parking offices.
