Winnipeg man charged after attempting to flee from police in stolen vehicle
Winnipeg police arrested and charged a 24-year-old man after he allegedly rammed a stolen vehicle into a police cruiser.
Officers said they were patrolling the area of Sargent Avenue and Simcoe Street around 11:50 p.m. Thursday night when they spotted a white 2023 Nissan Qashqai. The vehicle was reported stolen from the 100 block of Gerard Street earlier this week.
Police said they began following the car and turned down a back lane between Home and Arlington streets to contain the suspect. They said the suspect deliberately rammed one of the police cruisers while trying to get away but ended up getting stuck in a snowbank instead.
Two people were taken into custody. The officers involved weren’t injured.
Darcy Jace Seymour, 24, was charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, as well as possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000. He was detained in custody and the charges haven’t been proven in court.
A 23-year-old woman who police said was a passenger in the car was released with no charges.
