(NEXSTAR) — It’s been six years since we were introduced to the Duttons, the Montana ranching family at the center of “Yellowstone.” Now, it could all come to an end — sort of. Maybe.

The final episode of season 5B of “Yellowstone” is set to air Sunday night. You’ll be able to catch it at 8 p.m. ET on Paramount Network (it will not be on Paramount+, according to USA Today). It will also be an extended episode, airing for nearly an hour and a half.

Whether or not it’s the final time you get to see a new episode of “Yellowstone” is seemingly up in the air.

Viewers noted that while the fifth season of “Yellowstone” was slated to be its last, Paramount Network has been advertising Sunday’s episode as the “season finale,” not the “series finale.” That’s in line with what some of the cast and crew had previously said — director Christina Voros told USA Today in November 2023 that she did not know whether the show would end as previously anticipated.

While nothing has been confirmed regarding a sixth season of “Yellowstone,” the show’s universe is on track to expand even more than it has.

If you’re a fan of “Yellowstone,” you may have already watched its two prequels, “1883” and “1923.”

In November 2023, it was confirmed that a prequel, “1944,” and a spinoff, “2024,” had been ordered. The spinoff has since been renamed “The Madison,” and will feature Michelle Pfeiffer as its executive producer.

The series, again penned by “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan, is expected to follow a family of New Yorkers that now live in the Madison River valley of central Montana, The Associated Press reported in August.

But that’s not all.

Last week, Deadline reported that another spinoff is in the works, with series stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser set to reprise their leading roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, respectively. A source told the entertainment outlet that this does not mean a sixth season of “Yellowstone” is off the table, however.

When these new series could air has not yet been released. “1923” is set to return for its second season in February 2025.

“Yellowstone” has been a phenomenon for Paramount Network. The premiere episode of season five was watched by 12.1 million people, more than for any other scripted series airing at the time. The contemporary Western drama follows the Duttons, a wealthy family in Montana that owns the largest ranch in the United States.

Its patriarch, John Dutton III, was played by Kevin Costner until his season five departure.

While “Yellowstone” and its prequels, sequels, and spinoffs are dedicated to Paramount Network, older episodes of the show — at least through the first half of season five — stream on NBC Universal’s Peacock, owned by Comcast.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
